Fox 2000 has brought on Randi Mayem Singer (Mrs. Doubtfire) to write the screenplay for Alvin and the Chipmunks 4, which has already been set for release on December 16, 2016.
No plot details have been released at this stage, and it isn’t known if any of the cast members from 2007’s Alvin and the Chipmunks, 2009’s Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakuel or 2011’s Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked will return for this follow-up. Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney voiced the Chipmunks in all three movies, with Amy Poehler, Anna Faris and Christina Applegate voicing the Chippettes in Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakuel and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked.
The first three movies have earned over $560 at the domestic box office, and more than $1.1 billion worldwide combined, even though Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked earned $100 million less than its predecessors during its theatrical run.
Randi Mayem Singer’s other writing credits include Tooth Fairy, Wish List, along with writing for TV shows such as Jack & Jill and Real Life.

CBS’ Mom is bringing in a new challenge for Christy. My Name Is Earl alum Jaime Pressly has booked a major recurring role on the sophomore comedy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Pressly, who is currently toplining TV Land’s original comedy series Jennifer Falls, will recur as a newly sober woman who at times is more than Christy (Anna Faris) can handle.
“We have a great storyline this year: They lose the house,” executive producer Chuck Lorre tells THR. “They stay at a motel for a while. They stay with [new series regular] Mimi Kennedy’s Marjorie and the cats for a while. It’s a struggle. Christy is trying to keep her family afloat and keep her daughter afloat after the adoption. Her daughter is not doing well emotionally. It’s hard. And she’s also trying to help Jamie Pressly’s character, who is trying to get sober. She’s a woman with a lot of money and not much else going on.”
Lorre also confirmed that Kevin Pollak would return to reprise his role as Alvin, the boyfriend who abandoned Bonnie (Allison Janney) while she was in the hospital giving birth to Christy.
Said Lorre of the joys of working on Mom: “I love the challenge of trying to find stories that explore what happens in life versus what happens in television. I love what the other shows do, but Mom is an opportunity to do something else. I really haven’t had that opportunity since Grace Under Fire, and that was 21 years ago. It’s a great opportunity to write stuff that maybe touches on some real serious stuff and hopefully find a way to somehow make it funny as well. Having the first year under our belt gave us a little more confidence.”
